De Sanctis: Napoli want silverware -
July-28-10
Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis insists he dreams of lifting a prestigious trophy this season. The Azzurri have become a real force since Walter Mazzarri took over last October. Edinson Cavani’s high profile signing from Palermo has also raised expectations among the club’s supporters. Napoli haven’t won anything since 1990 when they lifted the Italian Super Cup on the back of their last League title. Speaking to Radio Marte, De Sanctis said: “I have found the same enthusiasm in training camp and the same desire to do something. “There is quality. We are conscious of our means. Last year’s climb up the table was exciting. Now we must consolidate our position and that will not be easy. “I remember Cavani as a striker who is willing to help the team. But he is clever in the penalty area and scored against Napoli last year. “He is young. Edinson can become one of the best strikers around. We are convinced that he will give an enormous contribution to the team. “His arrival creates competition up front and it’s important because we will have many games. I would be worried if someone like him arrived. “We want to go forward also in Europe and give prestige to the city and the fans. It will not be easy, but we’ll try to do it. “The squad is good. It takes openness on everyone’s part to be protagonists on all three fronts. Anyway, we count on having a great season. “We are close to the top four teams. The balancing act will be our capacity to manage two games a week if we get through the preliminary rounds in Europe. “I would like to win something with Napoli, hopefully the Coppa Italia. I don’t believe the Scudetto is a short-term objective because Inter are on another planet,” he concluded. |
